The top four seeds are the four semifinalists. The WTA records this as only the second time in the Open Era that the top four women’s seeds have reached the US Open semifinals, after 1975, and the first time at any major since Wimbledon 2009.
Elena Rybakina has already secured the world No. 1 ranking by reaching this stage, ending Aryna Sabalenka’s 99 week run at the top. The final is on Saturday 12 September.

Shelton beat Alcaraz at 3:30am, the latest finish in US Open history. Zheng Qinwen, a qualifier, beat Madison Keys from 0-5 down in the deciding set and then Świątek from 0-5 down in the first, before losing to Rybakina in the quarterfinals. Blockx retired with rib and back trouble while trailing Khachanov.

The second quarter lost every seed it had. Auger-Aliassime went in the second round and Blockx, the last one standing, retired in the quarterfinal, so an unseeded man came through a section of eight seeds. Zverev is the only top seed in either draw to win his own quarter on the men’s side.
