US Open Tennis 2026 Prize Money: Winner Payouts and Total Purse
Updated 4 August 2026
The US Open Tennis 2026 prize money total has not been announced yet. The USTA confirmed the 2025 figure on August 6 last year, so this year’s is expected within days.
For now the 2025 numbers are the guide. The tournament paid a record $90 million in total player compensation, the largest purse in tennis history, with $5 million to each singles champion.
There is more riding on this year’s announcement than usual. Wimbledon raised its purse by 20 percent in 2026, closing most of the gap. We explain why below.

Quick Facts: US Open Prize Money
| 2025 total | $90,000,000, a tennis record |
| 2024 total | $75,000,000 |
| Year-on-year rise | 20 percent |
| 2025 singles champion | $5,000,000 each |
| Rise for champions | 39 percent on 2024 |
| First-round loser | $110,000 |
| First-round qualifying loser | $27,500 |
| Wheelchair events | $1,600,000 |
| Equal prize money | Yes, since 1973 |
| 2026 announcement | Expected early August |
Singles Prize Money by Round
Identical for men and women. Figures are 2025.
| Round reached | Payout |
|---|---|
| Champion | $5,000,000 |
| Runner-up | $2,500,000 |
| Semifinalist | $1,260,000 |
| Quarterfinalist | $660,000 |
| Round of 16 | $400,000 |
| Round of 32 | $237,000 |
| Round of 64 | $154,000 |
| Round of 128 | $110,000 |
Each singles draw distributes $31,620,000, so the two draws together account for $63.24 million.
Losing in the first round pays $110,000. That is more than most players outside the top 100 earn in a season, which is why a Grand Slam main draw place matters so much.
Doubles Prize Money by Round
Per team, split between the two players. Same figures for men’s and women’s doubles.
| Round reached | Payout per team |
|---|---|
| Champions | $1,000,000 |
| Runners-up | $500,000 |
| Semifinalists | $250,000 |
| Quarterfinalists | $125,000 |
| Round of 16 | $75,000 |
| Round of 32 | $45,000 |
| Round of 64 | $30,000 |
Each doubles draw distributes $4,780,000, or $9.56 million across both.
Mixed Doubles Prize Money
The reimagined Mixed Doubles Championship pays the same $1 million to its winners as the men’s and women’s doubles, across a 16-team draw played in three days.
| Round reached | Payout per team |
|---|---|
| Champions | $1,000,000 |
| Runners-up | $400,000 |
| Semifinalists | $200,000 |
| Quarterfinalists | $100,000 |
| Round of 16 | $20,000 |
The event distributes $2,360,000 in total.
For context, Wimbledon paid its 2026 mixed doubles champions £148,000. The US Open pays nearly seven times that, which is why Sabalenka, Djokovic, Swiatek and Osaka all entered this year.
Qualifying Prize Money
Qualifying runs from August 24 to 27 and is free to attend during Fan Week.
| Round reached | Payout |
|---|---|
| Final qualifying round | $57,200 |
| Second round | $41,800 |
| First round | $27,500 |
Each qualifying draw distributes just over $4 million, or around $8 million across both.
Losing your opening qualifying match pays $27,500. For players ranked outside the top 200, one week in New York can fund several months on tour.
Wheelchair Prize Money
The 2025 US Open allocated $1,600,000 to the Wheelchair Championships, covering men’s, women’s and quad events in both singles and doubles.
This sits inside the headline total, which is why the published figure is described as player compensation rather than prize money alone.
Where the $90 Million Goes
| Category | Amount |
|---|---|
| Singles, both draws | $63,240,000 |
| Qualifying, both draws | Around $8,000,000 |
| Doubles, both draws | $9,560,000 |
| Mixed doubles | $2,360,000 |
| Wheelchair events | $1,600,000 |
| Per diem, hotel and other compensation | The balance |
Match payouts account for roughly $85 million. The rest covers hotel costs and per diem expenses, which the USTA includes in its published total.
That matters when comparing majors, because the four do not all account for these the same way.
How the US Open Compares to the Other Grand Slams in 2026
| Tournament | 2026 total purse | Singles champion |
|---|---|---|
| Wimbledon | £64.2 million, around $86 million | £3.6 million, around $4.8 million |
| Australian Open | A$111.5 million | A$4.15 million |
| Roland Garros | €61.7 million, around $72 million | €2.8 million, around $3.3 million |
| US Open 2025 | $90 million | $5 million |
Non-dollar totals move with exchange rates, so treat the conversions as approximate.
The gap is closing
For years the US Open paid far more than anyone else. That is no longer clear-cut.
Wimbledon raised its purse 20 percent in 2026, from £53.5 million to a record £64.2 million, which is roughly $86 million. Its singles champions took home about $4.8 million, within touching distance of the $5 million the US Open paid in 2025.
The Australian Open went up around 16 percent to A$111.5 million, and Roland Garros rose 9.5 percent to €61.7 million.
If the US Open holds flat this year, it could lose the title of tennis’s richest tournament in dollar terms. That is the real thing to watch when the USTA announces.
How the Purse Has Grown
| Year | Total purse | Singles champion |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $90,000,000 | $5,000,000 |
| 2024 | $75,000,000 | $3,600,000 |
| 2022 | $60,100,000 | $2,600,000 |
| 2021 | $57,500,000 | $2,500,000 |
The 2025 jump was the largest in the tournament’s history: 20 percent on the total and 39 percent for the champions.
Equal Prize Money
Men and women receive identical amounts at every stage.
The US Open was the first Grand Slam to do this, introducing equal prize money in 1973 after a campaign led by Billie Jean King. The other three majors followed, with Wimbledon last in 2007.
The tennis centre is named after her.
Equal pay at the majors is not the whole picture. Combined events below Grand Slam level still pay men more, and the gap at smaller tournaments is wider still.
What to Expect for 2026
The USTA has not published the 2026 figure. Three things are worth noting.
The timing. The 2025 announcement came on Wednesday, August 6, about two weeks before play began.
The trajectory. Totals have risen every year for over a decade, and 2025 brought the largest single increase on record.
The pressure. With Wimbledon up 20 percent, the Australian Open up 16 percent and Roland Garros up 9.5 percent, standing still would cost the US Open its position at the top.
