How Muchova and Mensik Won It

Mensik is 20 and had not played a mixed doubles match since he was about nine. Muchova pushed him to lift his ranking so the pair would make the entry cut at all.

  • Round one. They beat Kristina Mladenovic and Marcelo Arevalo, who hold 13 Grand Slam titles between them.
  • Quarterfinal. They dismissed the American pair Emma Navarro and Tommy Paul in 48 minutes.
  • Semifinal. They saved two match points against Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev, then took the match tiebreak 11-9.
  • Final. They broke for 3-1 in the opening set, lost the second, and controlled the deciding tiebreak.
  • The numbers. Across four matches they won 85 percent of first serve points, and hit 13 aces in the semifinal and final alone.

They also played the semifinal and final back to back on Wednesday night while Bencic and Cobolli rested for close to two hours. It made no difference.

Muchova had already won her first WTA 1000 title in Doha in February and reached the Wimbledon final in July, losing to compatriot Linda Noskova. Mensik adds this to the 2025 Miami Open title he won by beating Djokovic, and a Roland Garros semifinal in June.

Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz

The USTA granted the pair a wild card on August 22. It was Serena Williams’ first match on Arthur Ashe since her farewell in 2022, and Alcaraz’s first competitive tennis in about four and a half months after an April wrist injury cost him Roland Garros, Wimbledon, Toronto and Cincinnati.

They beat doubles specialists Erin Routliffe and Lloyd Glasspool 5-3, 4-1 in front of a packed Ashe, then lost to Bencic and Cobolli minutes later in the quarterfinals.

Williams is not in the women’s singles draw. She returned to tour in the spring, lost in the first round at Wimbledon and played Cincinnati doubles with her sister Venus. The pair also took a wild card into the US Open women’s doubles. Alcaraz goes into the singles as the two time reigning champion.

Qualifying Draw Results

Qualifying was new for 2026. Eight teams played in the Grandstand on August 24 for two main draw places, free to attend with a Fan Access Pass. It was the route back in that doubles specialists had demanded.

Mladenovic and Arevalo still reached the main draw as lucky losers after Leylah Fernandez and Frances Tiafoe withdrew. Siniakova and Patten made the extra day pay by knocking out Sabalenka and Djokovic the next afternoon.

Attention now turns to the singles. The 2026 main draw runs from Sunday, August 30 to Sunday, September 13, with the women’s final on September 12 and the men’s on September 13. Start times are on our schedule page and scores update on the results page.

The USTA has not confirmed the 2027 mixed doubles schedule. The event has taken the Monday to Wednesday slot of Fan Week in both of its two years, so expect the same window in late August.

Why the Format Still Splits Opinion

Mixed doubles used to run in the second week on an outside court. In 2025 the USTA moved it to Fan Week, cut the draw from 32 teams to 16, filled it with singles stars and lifted the winners cheque from $200,000 to $1 million.

Errani and Vavassori called it a pseudo exhibition and a profound injustice to doubles players, then entered and won the 2025 title. Qualifying was added for 2026 to answer them.

It did not work as intended. Both qualifiers were beaten by singles teams, Errani and Vavassori lost their opener, and four singles pairs filled the semifinals. The argument will run into 2027.

FAQ about US Open Mixed Doubles 2026

Who won the US Open mixed doubles 2026?

Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik of Czechia. The unseeded pair beat No. 4 seeds Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli 6-3, 1-6, 10-6 on Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday, August 26. It is a first Grand Slam title for both players.

What was the score in the 2026 mixed doubles final?

6-3, 1-6, 10-6. Muchova and Mensik took the first set, Bencic and Cobolli levelled, and the Czech pair won the 10-point match tiebreak. Mensik sealed it with an ace.

How much prize money did the winners get?

$1,000,000 per team. Runners-up took $500,000, semifinalists $250,000, quarterfinalists $120,000 and first round teams $40,000. The total purse was $2,880,000.

The top seeds lost in the first round to qualifiers Katerina Siniakova and Henry Patten 4-1, 2-4, 2-10. They earned $40,000 for the one match.

Did Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz win a match?

Yes. The wild card pair beat Erin Routliffe and Lloyd Glasspool 5-3, 4-1 in the first round, then lost to Bencic and Cobolli 4-5, 1-4 in the quarterfinals. It was Serena’s first match on Arthur Ashe since 2022.

Why did Errani and Vavassori lose so early?

The two time defending champions ran into Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev in the first round and lost 4-1, 1-4, 9-11 after winning the opening set. Short sets leave no room to recover.

How is the format different from normal doubles?

Sets are first to four games from qualifying through the semifinals, with a tiebreak at four all and no-ad scoring. A 10-point match tiebreak replaces a third set. Only the final is played to six games.

When is the next US Open mixed doubles?

The USTA has not confirmed the 2027 schedule. The event has run on the Monday to Wednesday of Fan Week in late August for two years, so expect the same window before the singles main draw.

US Open Mixed Doubles 2026 gave the USTA the crowd it wanted and not the champions it expected. Two unseeded Czech singles players who barely made the cut walked off with $1 million and a Grand Slam trophy, while the biggest names in the sport were gone by Tuesday evening.

Follow the singles from August 30 on our results page, and see the Fan Week guide for how the 2027 edition is likely to be scheduled.
