When is the US Open 2026 Draw Made?
Thursday, August 27, immediately after qualifying finishes. The timing is deliberate, so the 16 qualifiers in each draw are known before the bracket is built.
The ceremony is not broadcast live. The bracket appears on usopen.org once complete, and fans have argued that a public draw would be more transparent.
There is no confirmed public start time. In recent years it has been released during the New York afternoon.

How US Open Seeding Works
The US Open uses ATP and WTA rankings directly, with no surface adjustment. Roland Garros does the same. Wimbledon is the only major that applies its own formula.
Who gets seeded?
The top 32 ranked players in each draw, in ranking order, from the list published on Monday, August 24.
How are seeds placed in the draw?
The top two go into opposite halves, so they can only meet in the final. Seeds three and four are drawn into the two remaining quarters. The rest are placed in pairs so that no seed can face another before the third round.
Where do unseeded players go?
Unseeded players, wild cards and qualifiers are drawn at random into the remaining slots.
The result is that the top four cannot meet before the semifinals, and the top eight cannot meet before the quarterfinals.

Why the Seedings are Still Wide Open
Two tournaments decide the seedings, and both are unusual this year.
The Canadian Open, August 3 to 13. Sinner, Alcaraz and Djokovic have all withdrawn. Sinner is resting ahead of Cincinnati, Djokovic cited a change of schedule after his Wimbledon semifinal run, and Alcaraz misses it for a third straight year.
That leaves Alexander Zverev as top seed with a rare chance at a Masters 1000 with neither Sinner nor Alcaraz in the way. A title in Montreal is worth 1,000 points, enough to move him past Alcaraz into the No. 2 seeding.
Félix Auger-Aliassime is second seed at a career-high world No. 4, the first Canadian since Bianca Andreescu in 2021 to be seeded that high at a home Masters.
Cincinnati, which finishes on August 23. The final is played the day before the seeding list locks. Alcaraz is expected to return there after four months out, and Djokovic has confirmed he will play.
Alcaraz defends 3,000 points across Cincinnati and the US Open, having won both in 2025. He has not competed since April.
The practical stakes: whoever finishes higher of Alcaraz and Zverev lands in the opposite half from Sinner. The other has to beat him a round earlier.
Withdrawals Before the Draw
Players who withdraw before August 27 are replaced by the next ranked entrants, which reshapes the bottom of the seeding list.
The most significant is Emma Raducanu, the 2021 champion, out with a grade four stress fracture in her lower right leg. Victoria Mboko, Hailey Baptiste and Sebastian Korda are also out.

What to Watch For on Draw Day
Which half Alcaraz falls in. He is the defending champion returning from four months out, and his seeding is the most volatile at the top.
Whether the top seeds split cleanly. With Sinner nearly 5,000 points clear, the interest is in who lands in his quarter rather than who tops the list.
Wild card placements. Eight per draw. Jack Draper is one to watch, since his ranking has fallen far enough that he would otherwise face qualifying.
Qualifier placements. Sixteen per draw, decided only on August 27, and they often land next to a seed.
American clusters. The United States has 28 direct entries, the most of any nation, so home players will be scattered through both draws and some will meet each other early.
